Back in 2012, I challenged myself to keep a daily sketchbook. It was a practice I followed for about three months, and now, nearly four years later, I still find myself looking back on drawings from that time as a starting point for current projects. I found that the disciplined practice of beginning and ending a drawing every day not only generated a useful collection of source material, but changed the way I approached the drawing process itself.
I made a set of rules because I like rules, as long as I am the one making them:
- Every day, make a drawing inside your sketchbook.
- Do it in one sitting, bring it to a resolution (whatever that may mean), and do not come back to rework it later.
- Write the date next to the drawing.
A week ago, I decided to revive this practice to see where it takes me this time. Stay tuned?
